ginger root

my family and i have had a stomach virus for a couple of days now. a friend of mine who has stage 4 stomach cancer told me that ginger root will take away cramps. plus a bunch more. so i went to the store and bought some ginger root. i cut off a couple of slithers and put it in some water, then got it hot in the microwave....ginger tea....

drank 2 cups and the cramps are gone, along with the nausea.

thought i would share if someone else is interested.

Greetings Gracey:

Just remember that ginger is cumulative--it accumulates in the liver--so use it sparingly.

It can be wonderful for many things--when taken in moderation.

Peace and Love on your path to Total Healing...

Blessed be...

Ginger is well established as combating nausea and travel sickness, hence why crystallised ginger is eaten when travelling.
It's also an anti-inflammatory.

It makes a great tea for colds - grate about 1 teaspoon into a cup and top up with hot water. Leave, covered, to stand for about 5 mins then add honey.

It does affect certain drugs, e.g. amlodopine (used for high blood pressure) to name but one, so it would be wise to look at the contraindications if taking prescribed medication.

You can find the contraindications that Amy mentioned for most healing herbs, botanicals, and roots listed at botanical.com.

The listings will normally warning you about the cumulative natural remedies (as well)--

That's great news, Gracey. I always boil root medicines like ginger for a few minutes, to draw out more of the juices and oils.

Seems our elders knew something aboutthis. Remember when they use to give us ginger-ale after shaking out all the bubbles.
Ginger tea has helped me so many times. This is a great thing to share....thanks

Greetings Gracey and White Shaman:

You are both very welcome!

I am a certified natural health consultant and botanical.com is a valuable resource that I often recommend.

Doing your homework is a very practical practice. Roots, Herbs, and Botanicals have many wonderful healing properties--however--you never know when something might do you more harm than good--because of some current medication you might be taking--or (perhaps) a chronic medical condition.

Example: nettle leaf is a wonderful nutritive and has other healing gifts--
but it is (also) a hypoglycemic that can lower blood sugar significantly and is (therefore) inadvisable for those who have hypoglycemia-- or are diabetics on an insulin regiment.

Peace and Love on your paths to Total Healing...

Blessed be...
