Daywatch-Nigh****ch (classics)

Dunno if anyone else will agree ...but I simply loved Daywatch- Nigh****ch.
I was blown away but its visual style and cool characters ...unlike anything I'd seen before.
Just re-watched both

The grungy look-sfx was totally unlike anything Hollywood has yet created ..... films like Brazil & Kafka WERE a departure yet the Russian aesthetic of the Watch films were to me , unique. And almost painterly instead of filmic.

Wonderful subtly complex characters, superb art direction, edgy-funny dialogue, and a spiritual tone unlike anything i recall.... the dramatic Russian aesthetic-soul again.

It's been marketed as horror, by some.....yet is very tasteful, and sidesteps the graphic gore of SO many american films.....
To me it's dark fantasy ......rather than sci fi or horror.... with a spiritual undercurrent so typical of Russian film-literature.

Sadly there may never be a third installment (some claim that "Wanted") is hollywoods version of Duskwatch, the 3rd installment. (I've never seen the book , so I can't say....if there's any substance to this speculation)
The ending of Daywatch makes me suspect we've seen the last of it.

While Wanted is a cool movie.... it's thoroughly a Hollywood film , despite Timur's direction.
I understand if he's had enough of the Watch series, since Hollowood offers different challenges... $$$

No doubt many many folks weren't impressed with these films, but I feel they're classics, alongside Forbidden Planet and Blade Runner. (Particularly for their painterly visual style and edgy grungy effects)

Few heroes are as funny-complex and lovable as Anton , the angel of light.
