I've just heard that the proposed cull has been referred to Parliament for debate as a result of the 155,000+ signatures on the Team Badger e-petition.

KoA, there was also an article in the news regarding farmers backing away from the cull because of the cost. Apparently the gun nuts will be paid by the dead body.

Well, more specifically, the NFU and farmers acted on scientific advice that they wouldn't be able to cull 70% of the badgers this late into the year. Apparently it needs to be 70% to become effective. There is talk of pursuing this cull next summer though.

As you all probably know, Brian May is calling for a vaccination to come into effect. I wonder whether or not this postponement allows for this avenue to be pursued? If so, it should abandon the need for the culling.

Good news, though a ceasefire not a battle won.

The fight will continue into 2013...

Interesting snippet came out on Prehistoric Autopsy [excellent programme !]. The experts were looking at a jaw bone of Homo Erectus and they diagnosed the symptoms of tuberculosis, putting the disease back many millenia earlier than previously thought. The conclusion reached was that homo erectus were associated somehow with cattle BECAUSE TUBERCULOSIS IS ENDEMIC IN CATTLE i.e. cattle are carriers of the disease and were passing the disease onto Erectus who [presumably] were eating them possibly raw.
So, the speculation that cattle pass tuberculosis to badgers, rather than vice versa, could prove to be true.
