Your enemy is defined by thought.
And everything is just a thought in our heads. This is another way of saying that our very existence is a state of conscious awareness. Whatever you see or taste or hear or touch or smell is what you think it is. Seriously. In doing so, you become who you are.
Your mother or father is a social position no different from that of Secretary of State. You look at someone and see your husband or wife, a person who was sworn into that position by a judge or priest.
So, what is an enemy? It is just a thought in one's head. It can disappear as easily as your wife or mother if you let go of the thought. And that was how I gave up my parents. You don't have to love your enemies. Just give them up.
Can you do it? Thich apparently couldn't and has to love his enemy. |

It would have to be the element of anger. Anger would be the enemy then as opposed, say a person. Yes, thought of anger. We create our own reality.

Thich chooses to love his enemy; probably someone that mocks his teachings openly and aggressively.

Keep in mind though you will still interact and be around people you don't like in your daily activity. It doesn't mean they are no longer physically around. Being around them still raises anger you were trying to avoid. You don't like them and they don't like you. If they would still be around you have to deal with them and remain fair and impartial treating every person the same. |

Is the major weakness then more about or because spiritual teaching aren't followed. People simply don't follow teaching or we wouldn't have to have teachers. They have a life time job. |

It's the first.
Said teachings work in a world where there is zero conflict, which is not here in this natural world where everything is temporal. We have to adapt in this world. We can't 'humanize' every facet of this world.
I do not believe in the human-centric spirituality. Many spiritual paths and religions of the last 2500 +/- years are out of touch with nature.
Loving the torturer or thanking the rapist is not enlightening.
