Tolstoy, and some thoughts on self-renunciation

Hi Mark, Yes I hear what you are saying. I suppose the correct attitude spiritually does affect life fundamentally. The problem with many people is that they are unsure of their spirituality, theres a whole supermarket of different options out there, thousands of folks with different opinions on how to do this or that, all with their own experiences all of which are true to them.

So I start by getting the life part right because there is less (for me) grey area. A long time ago I read a book called the longest journey which was about a swami who was reported to have lived to 135 and was reputed to be fully realised, a fundamental of his very simple teachings was what he called the right life. He postured that real spiritual advancement was not attainable unless your human, physical life was orderd and well run, at the time this made great sense to me. I`m not saying he is absolutely correct but it still makes sense to me today.
