What was really wierd about the last African Beauty thread was the number of views it had. This present thread has got about 10 posts and had about 75 views.
However the old thread had about 15 posts, but over 2000 views! I couldn't believe it. Someone somewhere was very interested in it. Maybe it got selected for viewing by a school or something? Or someone doing research.
2000 views for a 15 post thread is very unusual. Check the numbers for yourselves on the forum.

I have never been to Africa... but I have always wanted to journey there... it seems to be the source of humanity... the place where we all began... My roommate in college was from Uganda... and I became close to a lot of the members of his family... they had fled the the regime of Idi Amin and he told me many stories of his childhood...

I'd like to learn a lot more about African Spirituality. Not Islam or Christianity but what it was before Africa was colonised by Europeans.
The ancient African Spirituality. I'll do some searching on the net when I feel the time is right.

I hear you, well for starters you can always research ancient Egypt and for the rest of Africa, I'm sure you can books about original Voodoo or Vudon as it was referred to, for starters.

Hi,
Thanks. Is that what the religion of most Africa was? I'm totally new to this. How prevalent was Vudon?
Jan.

Voodoo is what happened in Haiti and area - when the slaves were taken from Africa from all parts, they combined some of their beliefs with Catholicism, to hide it from their masters. There are many different kinds of voodoo. Africa itself had many different types of religions before Christianity - each tribe had their own. Try looking up the Jola tribe Honza if you'd like a place to start. There is a little bit on their wiki page of what was there before Islam. But it's just a small space. Before Christianity or Islam, they all had different beliefs - same as native americans.

You see. I did not know that Native American tribes had differing beliefs either. I thought that perhaps both African tribes and Native American tribes shared some common beliefs.
