Good idea, suzy. In my experience it works best to count to 10 and start over, otherwise the mind starts to drift.

You are right. Last night I thought I would relax a bit more then I will start counting. I relaxed too much and I fell asleep. I will have to start counting earlier. I will count one to ten. I think that number is best.

I use two techniques for relaxation. One of them is imagining I am in an elevator going down. The doors of the elevator are open and there is a rock wall in front of them. I imagine I am going down and can see the rock wall passing by my eyes the further down I go.

My second technique I use is to imagine thousands of little workers live in every part of my body. As I relax that part of my body I imagine all the little workers are leaving that body part as they leave work for the day. The further relaxed I get the less workers that are leaving until they are all gone and every part of my body is fully relaxed. These are good for keeping your mind active and allowing your body to shut down.

suzy... Do you remember the frequent advice to work on ap when you're somewhat rested? Otherwise the body's need for sleep will win out.

Hi Xan, I am not sure what you mean. Do you mean when the body is relaxed but not too relaxed then start counting. That is what I am going to do. I am going to start counting before I get too relaxed. I will pay more attention to it not to leave it too late.
That is interesting Astral Explorer. Thanks for sharing that. I like the second one. Sometimes I can relax very quickly. I like to listen to an ap CD to get me used to relaxing. Eventually I think I will be so used to relaxing instantly that I will not need the CD's anymore. Last night I did not use it. I relaxed very quickly. Tonight I am not going to use it.

I mean... make sure your body is rested so it won't demand sleep while you're relaxing and going for ap.
