Berry,
heartburn is rather a tricky thing and it sometimes takes more time to get rid of this discomfort.
I had experienced heartburn myself some years ago. My heartburn was kind of resisting to various recommended remedies (change of diet didn't work, antacids provided always a temporary relief for couple of hours). Woking up during the night and feeling it, it was a nightmare for me. Even though I knew in my case where this heartburn had came from (due to drinking 2l of multivitamin juices for 2 days), it took me 3 months to get rid of it. I found a remedy that worked for me just by chance - our local (Slovak) sparkling mineral water.
Just a question, have you tried consulting your doctor to help you? Conventional medicine is not always a bad choice as they have tests to evaluate the functions of your esophagus - which of course is not always the direct cause.
If you are interested and you PM me, I can help you by doing digestive system diagnostics remotely for you to check the status how much is digestive system is affected and whether cause of heartburn is more related to your diet.

Last Friday after being invited out for a meal I woke up in the night with really terrible indigestion. I was awake three times and walked around trying to digest whatever it was that caused the problem - all to no avail. I also had nothing in the form of tablets to help so despaired of getting back to sleep.
I then tried sugar. Half a teaspoon of sugar and my problem disappeared within minutes!!!

Heartburn is caused by weak/low stomach acid. Antacids do not work because they make your stomach acid even weaker. So food isn't getting digested properly which irritates your stomach even more.
How I got rid of it:
Super Enzymes before each meal. https://smile.amazon.com/NOW-Super-E...2Benzymes&th=1
I'd do one bottle then you should be good. I have to take these for the rest of my life. I didn't listen to my heartburn and I lost my gallbladder because of it. If this post helps anyone else from such a useless operation, then Im happy.
Eat fruits from the citrus family
apple cider vinegar
I couldn't handle the apple cider vinegar well unless i added it to apple juice which was high in sugar. So i cheated and put it in an empty capsule and swallowed those so I never had to taste it lol. Best of luck to you :)

I'm so sorry you lost your gallbladder PoppyBlue. I no longer have the heartburn. I started the thread hoping that people will post what works for them to help others with heartburn. I love the fact that the super enzymes helped you. Hopefully, it will help others. Isn't vitamin C necessary to maintain the digestive tract? I take apple cider vinegar daily. I don't like its smell and flavor so I add honey the water and apple cider vinegar mix.

I've had heartburn in the past. My doc said to avoid eating heavy meals before bedtime, especially fatty foods. I'm glad your splarking water worked!
