Don't get into the habit of making "thoughts" an "enemy" of meditation ;-)
When thoughts come, observe them happening, observe them coming and going through you like clouds passing in the empty sky.
A wonderfully effective way of having thoughts stop moving, is to look for the moment when each thought arises....this usually stops the thought from forming
Another tool, is to imagine a empty space INSIDE your tongue, and focus your attention on it...while your attention is focused on a black empty space inside your tongue, it's almost impossible for thoughts to move ;-)
But above all, is the idea of IMMEDIATELY "forgiving" yourself for thought movement when thought movement occurs, by "forgiving", I mean: just let it go in a casual way...don't make a big deal out of it, just observe the thoughts at the moment that they arise, or move your attention back to the empty place at the center of your tongue...don't "wrestle" with thought, or yourself for having the thoughts, just chuckle them away and return to calm relaxed attention.
