Mysterious phone call

I can somewhat relate to the "mystery phone call" issue:

Years ago, one of my male relatives died and, the following evening (I was still living at home with my parents at the time) our phone rang. I went and answered, and for a few seconds there was just static on the line....then I heard a male voice, very faint, through the static, say my mom's name, like he was trying to determine if it was her who had answered....then the line went dead.....
I am convinced to this day that it was the deceased relative who had for some reason reached out....the phone did not ring again that night, so if it had been someone else, they never called back......
