2 Buddhist students talking over a smoke.
#1 I'm going to ask master if it's alright to smoke.
#2 Me, too.
Next day, one is smoking the other is not.
Not smoking #1 I thought you were asking master if we should smoke or not.
Smoking #2 I did. What did you ask master?
#1 - not smoking, " Is it ok to smoke while I meditate?"
Master: Absolutely not.
#2 - smoking, "Ah, I asked master is it ok to meditate while I smoke?"
Master: Absolutely.

Prepare yourself for the coming astral journey of death by daily riding in the balloon of God-perception.
Through delusion you are perceiving yourself as a bundle of flesh and bones, which at best is a nest of troubles.
Meditate unceasingly, that you may quickly behold yourself as the Infinite Essence, free from every form of misery. ~Paramahansa's Guru's Guru.

lol these topics get people all fired up
In middle school, 7th grade, I used to pretend to inhale cigarettes to hang out with the cool kids up on the field above the football stadium before school started...it was very fun back then. ~ Thank goodness that phase did not last long. Could have ended up addicted. I accidently inhaled a few times while pretending to smoke.....was painful.
That one billionaire, forgot his name, he starts each day with an Egg McMuffin from McDonalds. He said he has been doing that for 40 years.

Religions might not support the use of intoxicating substances NOW, but at one time they were very much part of their Ceremonies/Rituals. The OT for instance is full of references to the use of Kaneh Bosm.
I live close to a very large Community of Hasidic Jews and believe me they smoke like chimneys while walking home from the synagogue
To each their own....

When I used to live in Asia, I would always see monks, generally the 'new' ones, in the alleys, having a smoke.
