But it is a choice alike calm is a choice. But calm only becomes a choice once the work is done to acheive it by choice so therefore happiness is a choice once the work is done about how to acheive it.
When all the un-happiness is gone then only happiness is left. The work is in removing the causes of un-happiness. Then happiness is a choice.

The thing is, first there's no choice and then there's a choice?
One can be unhappy and another can tell them 'choose happiness', but misery can not be overcome glibly.
The process is one which leads a person through experience, and just as they spiraled downward, they again spiral up, but there is a very delicate time where relapses come all too easy.
To be fair, each person comes as they are, and they feel the way they do, and that's just how it is.
