THE COMMISSION
THE COMMISSION
Say there God, I know that you came
and that you spoke through me
Did you know that my heart’s not so pure?
I delivered your messages anyway,
but I’m checking back now to be sure
Was it really for me
that your words were meant,
not the dude who lives on down the street?
Now he is a pure and clean living old guy,
not like me, he is stuffy, but sweet.
I am pithy and scarred like an old coconut
and I’m tough as a hunk of raw hide.
So I was dumbfounded when I heard your voice
and the words that you spoke out inside.
I thought it was best to just go do it quick
before I messed up or goofed on your lines
It was sure quite a switch
to be working with you
and to point all my friends toward your signs.
....And then... God spoke again:
Well my son, I can see I can tell you the truth
I did try out that neighbor guy first.
But his brain is locked down,
and it's buttoned up tight
he is dry, and his spirit can’t thirst.
Even God can’t break into a frozen up mind
that knows all that it knows just by rote
I needed one open, one I knew I could trust
for delivering my latest love note.
You did it so well and you did it with style
I could see your crowd sit up listen.
And from here, where I sit,
I can tell it has worked
For their spirits are brighter, they glisten.
They believed in my message of love
as you spoke
and they do know it came straight from me
For your words touched their hearts
in your own special way,
without judgment or penalty.
I’m not always right, but I never am wrong!
When I need to send light
into some darkened place
I do call on some who won’t get up and go
Then I look for a soul I won’t have to unlace.
I don’t need to say more,
but just know you did well
You sure are my premium number one man!
You just had it wrong,
thought I’m not everywhere
But I AM, and you’re part of my overall plan.
See ya later Bro!
