A doctor says people can be revived several hours after they have seemingly died. Should this change the way we think about death?

Should we change the way we think about death? What implications does this have for reincarnation, etc?

This is the most interesting article I have read for weeks. The brain seems to be able to survive a bit longer than expected, and that it is worth an extra effort to try to help someone who are found 'dead' in an accident if the body is not too damaged. It could be an evolutionary step in emergency health care. However, I do not understand your question. The soul will leave the body when the body is spent, not when the doctor signs the paperwork.

It brings up loads of ethical and economic questions. How much should we invest in this? Is there a way to measure when a person is objectively dead? Do the after death experiences of others constitute a physical phenomena that can be measured? What could cause a soul to return to its body? Is this a physical process that can be measured? If so do we have an obligation to help that process happen? Etc
