Can the soul remain in the dead body?
Is it possible that the soul won't be able to leave the body after death, and will remain in the corpse?

Yes, seen it myself a few times. Only happened in specific circumstances though. I dont think its a common thing.
Why do you ask?

I have seen this question asked before but not on here.
From the little I know,I would say 'no' but then again I am not an expert on this subject.
Once the physical body 'dies' I should imagine the soul would be free to leave.
But sometimes,if the soul is not aware of physical death,it may hover near to the physical shell.
I suppose what we would call a 'haunting'.
That's about as much as I know,sorry.

This is something that is asked more than you realise.the soul can and does linger near the body in some circumstances, like a tragic death total unexpected etc, but normally when the physical body dies the soul goes on,

The body falls from you like a cast-off suit. The suit is not the person. The body is not the real you.
However you may view the body as you will every act, thought, and deed of that incarnation. But the soul is absorbed into a sphere
of Light, while the etheric force within the body usually and slowly dissipates into thin air three days later. Which is why the old stories
of the ghost rising from a newly buried grave. It is energy that slowly departs. The soul is not present then. It is in its eternal state of being.

It's impossible for a soul to remain in a body after physical death. The soul is the spirit, life force energy that enables us to live and express ourselves as a human being. The soul knows when it's time to return home to its divine source and continue to experience life in the spirit world. It's at this time that the physical body will experience what we refer to as death.

Some ancient people seemed to think so. The whole pre-Christian Icelandic belief in Draugar is based upon the idea.

I don't believe so. I personally believe there's a mind-soul connection and the mind doesn't continue on in the body after death, so why would the soul?

My understanding is (based on the Orthodox faith and the Tibetan book of death (i think it's called) that it takes 3 days for the soul to leave the body.

How can we know? I thought the soul left first, and that is the death of the body. Otherwise, it would be like being buried alive! Also, I think some souls hover (and watch) until the funeral is over. And others, when they're gone, they're gone. They lingered and suffered (perhaps being afraid to die) but when they took the plunge, they were gone.
