Humming Bird Lovers Heads Up
We are having some snow in May here in the Rocky Mountains and flowers have been delayed because of it. We have had humming birds show up this last week. If I hadn't gotten out the hummer feeders they would have starved to death with nothing for them to eat.
Don't know if you are having a delayed spring too.

What I read briefly was that the change of climate has changed some migratory patterns, causing different species to be spotted in different locations. I haven't read further, but that's sad. I hope the birds will be fine in your area,my guess is that when they migrate or "come back" they will settle in warmer areas...

I leave my hummingbird feeders up and filled all year long.

primrose, I was taught years ago that if I didn't pick up the hummingbird feeders in the late fall when the frost begins in the mornings, that the hummers would stay because of the food source and consequently freeze to death because they didn't migrate.
Honza, I'm sorry you don't have any of these mystical treasures. They are so fun to watch during the summer.

I'm situated in a moutain valley, a couple of chains west of the Rockies - but up in Canada. We haven't seen snow here for well over a month, but still the weather's been coolish, more so than the old seasonal norms.
We saw our first hummingbird (a ruby-throated) about 10 days ago, and have seen a few more in the last two days. We put our feeders out yesterday.

linen, in the winter I move them to a sheltered place, and I monitor them, i've had no hummers freeze.

Please tell me how you do that in your climate and not loose your hummers

My climate isn't harsh, we had no snow at all this year, I know that it wouldn't be possible everywhere.

Okay, we live at 5,000 feet so that wouldn't be possible for us. I thought all of Canada got snowed in during winter months.
