Things that go “Bump” in the Night or Day
Hello
Part from a children’s prayer:
“From goulies and ghosties and long-leggedy beasties
And things that go ‘bump’ in the night
Good Lord, deliver us!”
This was recorded in The Cornish and West Country Litany, 1926
What brings on this feeling of something or someone being there with us?
A bogeyman is strongly common image that is used by adults to frighten children into compliant behavior. The monster has no specific appearance, in many cases; he has no set appearance in the mind of an adult or child, but is simply a non-specific image of terror. Parents may tell their children that if they misbehave, the bogeyman will get them.
Bogeyman tales vary by region. The bogeyman may be male, female or both.
Taking into consideration that from a very early age we are more aware of what is around us before we can verbally state things, why is it that we do not simply “accept” what we see?
