Cat Does anyone else out there think the world has gone nuts??? What does it all mean??

I have heard all the conspiracy theories re 21/12/2012 etc, and know that some people are seeing all the terrible natural disasters we are having lately as a harbinger off the apocolyptic end to the world. I haven't decided yet if i am one of them, but to me things seem to be way out of control, or maybe I am just noticing them more because of what's happened to my city.

Is this really the case??? I just don't get what is going on, but whatever it is I think someone/something is trying to give us a message - as in perhaps-"Clean up your act or....!"

Who knows for sure.
I once worked with a beautiful gentle soul who had very firm beliefs in a relatively new-age christian-based religion. She and I had many discussions as to the meaning of life etc as she saw it, and what happens after we die etc. I asked her once what would happen to all the billions of people who were followers of some religion other than her own- her reply- "that's just too bad- they will not ascend into heaven with Christ"- I couldn't believe that such a lovely creature truly believed that a loving, forgiving, and omnipotent God would exclude so many from His realm of salvation/heaven/nirvana...

I am not ashamed to say that I have always had a greater affinity with animals than I have with humans - generally speaking. All they ask for is love and they return it in spades. Watching the news re the devastation and massive loss of life caused in New Orleans by Katrina,Floods in Pakistan, Earthquakes in Haiti, or even the starving millions in Africa - etc etc - did not affect me anywhere near as much as say, a news item about animal cruelty. The numbers the newsreaders would read out simply didn't register with me - they were just so incomprehensibly large-I mean how many died in Haiti???Unbelievable numbers. And of course Japan this year - 25,000 washed out to sea. So sad.
So for example ( before I learned better) - I would see poverty-stricken Pakistanis wading waist deep through floodwaters- trying to hold their children and/or worldly possessions in a sack above their head and I would feel very little in response. I was numbed to it all.
However- if i saw a story about an oil spill in the gulf of Mexico or wherever and even just one single bird struggling vainly trying to clean its feathers and unable to walk or fly due to the oil covering it I would explode in a rage.
The terrorist attack on the Twin Towers in 2001 was more shocking to me than seeing millions of people living in slums/refugee camps across Africa, dying by the thousands every day from Aids and hunger.

9/11 was just one of those totally surreal days, that even though "only" two or three thousand people were killed, and "only" 2 buildings destroyed in a very big city in a very big and wealthy country-it captured EVERYONE'S attention because it was just SO unthinkable. BTW I have always found it bizarre that Bin Laden picked that day of all days- in the Southern Hemisphere we show our dates by the day first, e.g.-11/9 - but 9/11 is how the American people see that date and my (skewed!) belief is it was chosen because it reads the same as the USA's emergency code-'911' which the terrorists knew they would be overloading - maybe reading a bit much into that, but you never know...

Sorry this is so long - but I would just like to say that now that I have personally experienced the "death" of a city due to natural disasters, and had to suffer a few tiny hardships like no phone for a day, or electricity/showers for a few hours or days - I now know just how absolutely terrifying it is to be caught up in something you have ABSOLUTELY NO control over. It will be almost a year soon since any member of the general public has been allowed to set foot in what was out CBD, and no-one knows when we will be able to go there. We have lost our 2 Cathedrals, and so many churches its unbelievable-just when people needed to use them the most to pray and be comforted. Our roads are like those of a 3rd world country, houses have fallen off cliffs, and the earthquakes are just not stopping. We have had over 7000 of them since last Sept - the 5 major ones resulted in us being a city that actually had "Homeless" people!! We didn't ever have that sort of problem (visibly anyway).
Then Boom - before you know it - Japan has a dreadful event, and boom, boom boom -things are going wrong all over the globe-suddenly it is NOT just the poor peoples of the world suffering and being killed by quakes, hurricanes, volcanoes, mine and nuclear plant explosions etc etc - it is our sleepy little country and so many places like us that have never had events like that before. WHY???
I had no idea what it was like to live under military & police curfew, to be so afraid every night that another quake will hit that I and most other residents still left here wear clothes to bed, have a bag packed, or supplies enough for 3 days should you have the misfortune to be alone and stuck in your house. In fact - most people don't leave their houses unless they absolutely have to.
Only now do I understand the terror of a force so powerful it makes us humans look like pathetic little parasites - and I am WELL-OFF compared to the rest of the world- I have a roof over my head.

Every time we get a quake, my mother takes the scientific stance - oh- the ground's just settling, its a good sign (!?) - but the entire world is shaking, flooding people to death with tsunamis, killing them in volcanic eruptions, fires, landslides etc. What is HAPPENING???
I cannot believe the culture of today- even in parts of my country that haven't experienced any disasters - all people seem to care about is such trivial rubbish- who has the most "friends" on Facebook, the latest PSP, i-Phone, laptop, whatever. I can assure you that if you do NOT have an emergency kit and are as blase about one as I was prior to Sept 2010, the ONLY piece of modern technology that will be of any use to you at all is the Cellphone.

Are all of these events really harbingers of the "END" according to Mayan prophecy? All the singers seem to be cashing in on it- think Britney;J-Sean etc. Are they warnings that we need to start respecting the beautiful planet we have been given to live on and go back to basics where the main things in life were family, friends, neighbours, and having enough to survive on - nothing more, nothing less. The financial world is about to collapse - and yet billions of dollars a day are spent on useless wars. Nature doesn't really have to "cull" us - we are pretty good at doing it to ourselves-not only with military wars but biological ones-maybe viruses and bacteria will be the only survivors of the future.(!)
I think if we keep going the way we are, Mother Nature can take a break as we'll simply do the job ourselves!

How do science and faith mesh when so many bad things are happening to so many innocent people? Science has certainly given us much to be proud of and made our lives so much easier than those of our ancestors-but where does it end? When is too far? Are the 'prophets of doom" right about it all or are they simply crazy scaremongers???
If it had not been for my mother paying attention to the Govts "Get Ready/Get Thru" advice - I would not have even had any water to drink when the first quake hit. I had no stores whatsoever.
Geological activity aside - animal behaviour is becoming more and more bizarre also- thanks to our interference - yet again. Either species are disappearing from the planet, or they are multiplying unchecked and swarming into areas they never should be in - thanks to us trying to interbreed or use science to make money.

Anyway - enough dribbling on - as you can see i feel very strongly about this subject- and only now can I look at the tragedy that was New Orleans or Haiti or Japan etc etc - and truly FEEL the terror some of those people must have felt.

I don't know about the end of the world - in a biblical/apocolyptic sense - but we are sure going to have to mend our ways in many areas -we as a race cannot go on like this. Maybe spirituality and the return to love and morality it engenders will win out over the constant avarice abundant in today's world. and maybe Science - which can never explain spiritual anomalies fully, will turn its attention to altruism - not the pursuit of the mighty dollar.I just don't get it.

We ALL want the same out of life - to be happy and to feel safe and cared for - so easy isn't it? Why is it so difficult to achieve? I dunno if the world will end next year or not - if it does I hope wherever I go will be the magical place I imagine in my dreams. But one thing I do know is this :-

In my opinion the world went nuts years ago. Before any of us were even born.

Wink

Greed has almost had its day, there are a lot of positive forces around at present and with a little luck we will start seeing some of this positive energy stand up after 2012.

sunstrucknz don't worry to much, there will be a few more disturbances until the end of 2012 but it should be calm after............we are then at the start of the Golden Age that could last up to 700 years.

Hi sunstrucknz, Thanks for sharing that … something that has been on my mind as I contemplate God and our existence. I think the new age modern Christianity Concept is very much flawed. Full of too much compromise … too much froth and bubble. Unfortunately I’m finding many spiritualists in here like that too. It seems their doctrines and teachings are all about focusing on what feels “good” to them and nothing else. Complacency is the word that comes to mind.
Focusing too much on something is not a good thing in the sense, if that’s all you is looking for, then that’s all you see … type thing. I guess that’s why a lot of the message, the so called Dooms Day Professors, goes unheard. (Another aspect of that is if you see something that you don’t like, then look elsewhere)
There is two ways of looking at it for me, or maybe three:
There are the plain facts – Over population, Lack of Resources, Deforestation, Melting, etc. etc. I think man is using technology more to comfort and look the other way creating religion to fill the void and give some kind of justification to all this self-destruction.
I think it is pure denial, to claim that man is evolving beyond his instinctual beginnings. I think it’s a simple case that we have always known our self-destructive ways and that prophecies which have come to light are nothing more than well-educated insights into the future. These are usually foretold by those that lead the way to innovations that supposedly evolve man to the next level. More often than not, such inventions that make our lives easier often tend to work against the natural order of things.
I DON’T KNOW … I don’t think it’s just because we are making things easier, or take short cuts, but I think it’s because we have not learnt the lessons of doing things tough as life is meant to be. I think there is some kind of lesson we need to learn before we move on to the next level.
Animals accept this … their instinct is set in stone and not subject to change. However man came to be … I think the ability for awareness is what ranks us above the animal kingdom, but in order to survive in harmony, we most likely need to learn all we can from the animals. Instead like the earth, we have truly neglected what should be view as our responsibility for having such awareness.
Something like the American Indians or Australian aborigines type thing … But sadly that is all history now and what is left those cultures now suffers much like earth itself.
You sound like a realist. That is good. Take heart in the fact that you can at least see. In all probability and something which is most likely accepted, our planet goes through a cosmic cleansing every so often.
It really is confusing … I was only just sorting out my own emotional conflicts with the Christian God having emotions, and then someone reminded me of how God took out one of these traits by flooding the world to either teach us or make himself feel better. I can understand why so many people HATE like so. It really is sad trying to get a grip on it all … perhaps this is where facing the things we don’t like to hear start … where Justice comes to be and the hierarchy all starts … Maybe the truth is we need cleansings of sort in order to flourish…the way I am reading some of what you’re getting at is that the animals deserve more than us and I agree.
I’m not that bothered about us being wiped out to be honest as well. It’s laughable that others claim us to be so enlightened…a joke…so I kind of understand what you’re getting at and don’t think your just harping on some attitude to the future I’ll leave to the froth and bubble crowed to paint.
Your dead on … the world is messed up … but at least you can see.
Not much comfort I’m afraid … I still think we can find peace one way or the other though. I’m not quite sure. I’m just keeping an open mind. I’ve been brainwashed with the Christian new age cult/s from childhood and quite <snip> and still suffering with confusion and guilt. I know I won’t find God in a church, that’s for sure! I’m not sure anymore man and I feel really bad for not knowing. My mind is starting to twist and bend…I feel mentally strained trying to make some kind of sense that leaves me feeling …not guilty…
I’m constantly changing brain states trying to find alpha…that at least keeps me feeling a little at ease…by the same token, I don’t want to be hooked full time like some surrogate connected to an ipod…LOL…go to laugh man, because that’s all I’m seeing these days. It really is a thin road…but not necessarily the one Joyce Myers subscribe too…LOL again…highway to nowhere that one. What a bent world indeed.
One of my other buddies, goes to church on Sunday, does the men’s group with an opposing sect on Tuesday, and then does the Buddhist thing on Saturday morning at 5:00am. Out of most loonies I have met, he is the most stable. <snip>
I seriously don’t know man … Yes the world is running out of food and water and where breeding faster than we can cope … let’s just make the most of it while we can and be thankful for whatever position we find ourselves in. It leave more energy to meet whatever is coming in the best light possible and also the strength to see what is really going on.
Best I can make of things for now. I hope it’s an asteroid, spectacularly so and that the next race will fair better than we did … if not … I’m all for seeding the universe with the best we have to offer, although not your typical dry academic’s. That would only serve to repeat the mistake that first spawned us.
Seriously I know I am messed up ... no harm in trying to make sense though.
Take Care
Dave ;)

I got one thing to say It should sum it all up!

Take it from someone who has worried himself sick over things like this. Smell and enjoy the flowers and ignore the weeds, enjoy the flowers while they are there and most of all don't worry! Regarding being nuts...We all are!

Ah yes - the old Y2K I.T. frenzy!!!
I remember that night very clearly-was staying with a friend who lived on a hill and after our NY celebrations we headed down to a great vantage point to watch all the lights in the city go out as had been predicted - no such luck!! Computers obviously had a mind of their own then and they still do - they're taking over the world! Sad really eh? Though these days, flying over our city is v weird according to my friend who is a flight attendant - apart from residential areas most of the lights ARE out! And that can't be fixed by even the most talented IT specialist - Mother Nature had the last say there!
