Meditation & Nature

I've meditated in the woods a few times and I love it and hate it. I don't like swatting flies or if it gets too hot. There are a lot of inconveniences.

So I bought a UHD 4K TV and a 4K camcorder. I took nature videos footage. I then plan to play them on my 4K TV and meditate.

A friend told me I'm just wasting my time and I won't get the same energy as if I was actually in nature.

Artists will paint a picture that captures the "essence" of something and people will buy it. It's not a waste.

Does my 4K footage captures the "essence" of nature and when I meditate in front of it - am I actually in nature - or the next best thing?

Focusing on any one thing can bring its energy, though this may be difficult if you have to close your eyes when meditating and your ability to immagine/visualise isn't top-notch.

Better off indoors I reckon.

You can try meditating walking while in nature and that way you get the energy of nature that you are seeking

Meditation in the woods has some powerful benefits that you cannot replicate at home. For example, it is known that the smells and scents from the forest influence the emotional centers in the brain and greatly reduce stress.

That said, it has also been shown that mere looking at nature photos and images affects the quality of one's relaxation and meditation.

So, yeah, if you can't go to the woods to meditate, bringing the woods back home may be the next best thing.

I agree with sunnyray, you can still get the emotions of nature if not all of the sensory experiences. At least your brain will still register what you're looking at and, while meditating, create the peaceful environment of nature without all the pestering pests!

I know I love meditating outside, but live in an area without a lot of nature, and the grass isn't grass, it's stickers and weeds...drought, yaaaay. So, the next best thing is visualization! Whatever works for you and brings your self a sense of peace :)

Yes the calm and fresh enviornment and nature plays a major role in the meditation, it enhances the effect and result of the meditation.

if it enhances the enjoyment of your practice then good for you. The main thing is that you are meditating.
Yes in theory, the meditation is enhanced by the chi/prana out in nature, but if its just annoying you and this does the business then use what works my friend
