looking into crystals

I have been reading some topics here and I was curious I would like to purchase some crystals but unsure what should be my first purchase? Is it different for everyone? I am trying to enhance my abilities I just don't want to walk into this store and buy anything cause it looks pretty lol

first crystals, hhmm - just go with it

some people choose by sight, some people choose by how they react in their hands, im sure there are various ways of choosing

if you want specifics..how about

amethyst, quartz, citrine, smokey quartz, sodalite and go from there :))
they dont have to be big..

If you want to go wear a gems in your hand then firstly consult with good astrologer because every person have different planets and they have different behavior so wear according your planets its better and get benefits

Actually the ones that appeal to you visually can often be the best ones for you personally. Our intuition is connected to our Higher-self and our Higher-self knows best. As other suggested the standard beginning stones for most people are the abundant inexpensive ones such as Quartz, Amethyst, Citrine, things of that nature. They are good foundations to start building on, I think everyone owns a piece of Quartz and Amethyst in one form or another.

You can read about stones online, or get a book, but it's best to see what jumps out at you in the shop.

Quartz is great, because you can easily cleanse them with water, other people may suggest Fluorite. If the shop has books on crystals, then flick through and see what page you land on :)

Perhaps they may have a book on cleansing stones to read too, such as this one.

Kyanite, Carnelian, Charoite, Ametrine, Tourmaline, and Aragonite, are a few that you could look out for...

It's different for everyone. Quartzes and agates are very affordable, though, and the general rule of thumbs is that the effect corresponds to color.

bright red - motivation, physical health
pink - relaxation, healing, emotional health
orange and yellow - focus, energy boost
green - balance, healing
blue - protection, expression
violet - people say this is for general psychism, but I intuit that it's specific to a lot of energy in the middle-higher range
black - relaxation, cleansing
white or clear - energy boost and cleansing

I would start with any stones that resonate with you when you're in the shop. But remember, you don't have to go broke buying everything in sight. You can set a reasonable budget and buy inexpensive stones, and have just as much success as someone who is able to spend a small fortune. Energy healing has no correlation to the amount of money we spend (or refrain from spending).

One stone that I would recommend for anyone who is getting involved with crystals is clear quartz. That's the Master Stone, capable of being used for any purpose and able to amplify the effects of any other stone. That's definitely a stone you will not have to spend a mint on. Don't be taken in by claims of rarity -- any site that tries to convince buyers that quartz is rare is not being truthful. Quartz (Silicon Dioxide, SiO2) is among the most common substances in the Earth's crust. So while every individual crystal is a unique specimen, the quartz itself is not rare, and should not cost an arm and a leg for a modest-sized piece.

I believe and have learned that you should go off how you feel and color intended for use.
I have had bad "luck" with Diamonds, Rubies and Amethyst in the past. (Just noticed a pattern with this so I better open my mind up now)
I got Diamonds and every time I did it seemed that there was some problem! To the point where in this marriage I decided NOT to get a diamond. Rubies have given me bad energy before also. Especially around and in regards to family. The Amethyst gave me a lot of negative effects, but when I was younger. Now I don't seem to have issues with it now.
I love the feel and energy of sea shells. Not sure if any one has noticed that or not. I get impeccable good feelings from sea shells.
I bought an awesome little Chakra crystal set off Amazon. You get a large bag filled with 7 tiny bags. And each of the tiny bags are filled with 3 stones a piece. One bag per Chakra and 3 different crystals in each bag. I cleansed the crystals with baking soda, Epsom salt and water. I figured baking soda and the magnesium sulfate are minerals and this would super charge my crystals. So far I got a great cleanse from them with that little solution I made myself.
I also liked burning sage before I used them as well.
Any way, good luck with getting some crystals. I love the way they look. Even glass is so beautiful to me. But I think that's my Taurus like personality.
