Thanks for so much replies.
What about the health effects of tattooing? Is it safe for your body, from spiritual point of view?

I see some have mentioned traditional uses of tattoos compared to western tattoo culture. Here is my take on this.
Tattoos could be earned through tradition and transcend beyond the individual's lifetime
or an individual could choose an artist to make one of his own unique individual ideas into a tattoo, and pay an artist to get it.
One use of tattoos is not anymore valid than the other. Tattoos are an art form, which could be part of tradition or part of an individuals mode of expressing his/her ideas, experiences, memories etc into ink on his body.
Traditional uses of tattoos have great depth, but so may an individuals life and perception have depth that is to be respected also.
and paying an artist to tattoo you doesn't take away from the depth of your tattoo, but because we can pay for anything without having to have a reason....it can lead to some superficial people getting tattoos for the sake of it and whatnot. That's just what happens when business gets involved.
