Fate? Expiation of karma?
"Almost everybody has, at least once in his life, experienced a fatal blow. It came out of nowhere and it was cruel. You had the feeling that life was unjust, that you did not deserve it, and you had great difficulty dealing with it. The bandaid which was supposed to heal the wound was the comforting thought that it was fate, that there was nothing you could have done. It was no one's fault, because it was so willed from above - from a higher power."

What a lovely explanation, thank you for putting it up.
For me the most important ingredient of karma, is that which creates it and this is our `intent`.
An understanding of the fact that our intent creates this boomerang like force which returns to us, is very important, with this understanding we can create the future we would like through the intent we choose.

Karma are lessons
Samskaras are a type of karma that are past life tendencies, like habits that are accumulated over past lives. For example, someone may have an unnatural fear of abandonment or be quick to respond with anger. This could be because they carried them from past incarnations into the present one. addictions like lust or greed or competitiveness. Everyone has several things that they seem to struggle with more and that's why.
And this is from google :
Akarma
'not-working', freedom from reactions, selfless activity, devotional service, activity leading to self-realization.
