Skadegamuct

Among the Micmac , Wabanaki and other northeastern Algonquian tribes there are legends of the Skadegamuct, extremely malefic creatures some black witches and very evil people turn into upon their deaths. At night they appear somewhat humanlike, but during the day they appear as corpses. By night they prey off humans, drinking their blood and consuming their flesh.

The Skadegamuct can transform itself into a ball of light and move swiftly over the land in search of prey, usually preferring solitary and smaller groups of travelers and hunters over larger groups of people. Retaining it’s black magic this creature is extremely powerful and can blend in very well with it’s surroundings, all but invisible to any passerby or camper unlucky enough to be within it’s swift striking range.

Weapons cannot kill the night hunting Skadegamuct. The only way to slay this creature is to find where it hides during the day in it’s corpse form and burn it.
