Little Cruelties
Long time ago. I'm in a big indoor mall, sitting on a bench. It's about 11 a.m. Not many people around. A family is slowly moving into view from my right. About 2 adults women and 4 kids. Trailing them is the 11 or 12 yr old boy. And just like that the boy slaps 8 yr old girl in the head for no reason. There was no talking among the family members. The girl says ouch! That does it. But I wait to see what will happen next. The grandmother calls I guess the grandson out on the assault. She addressed it right then and there with her words. Good for her. The correction has to come quick. If it doesn't it will only get worse down the road.

Oh I bet there was a reason. Maybe the little girl is possessed by the devil, and the 8 year old boy is the only one who knows it? Perhaps in a past life the little girl murdered the little boy (but as adults in a POW camp or something), and they've reincarnated as immediate family members, and they both know it. Maybe at home the little girl is a raging bully, and you witnessed the little boy's first attempt at avenging himself? In all these contexts he deserves a medal, right?
You just never can tell.

Re bluto
NO I don’t think the boy deserves a medal regardless of what the circumstances are. The grandmother handled the situation very well.
