I'm here to learn and hopefully evolve!

I found this website when searching for the Yoganandaji dot org forums, which seem to have vanished completely.

I am fascinated by matters religious, spiritual, philosophical, and supernatural.

My spiritual progress in my current life has been so minimal I somewhat fear returning in my next life as a lesser being on a downwards path away from enlightenment. I am hoping this is not the case and that I may find my guru to help correct my navigation of this life.

welcome to SF Please do not fear for your spiritual progress. We do not move spiritually backward simply because we may feel we have not moved far enough forward in this particular incarnation. There are no time limits either......

It's not merely a lack of forward progress; I am dogged by materialism. Gluttony for example: I eat far too much and too often. If I didn't walk as much as much as I do, I'd probably be fat. Food is my go-to when stressed, sad, or even just bored. Part of me wants to fast for an extended period of time and see what it does for my body and my mind - but no: off to the kitchen for another four sandwiches and a beer.

Then there's sexual frustration; part of me thinking it would be great to just shut off sexuality and do without it, but another part of me screaming from deep within "NO! CHASE ALL THE PRETTY LADIES!!!" Much as with food, I see great value in the concept of celibacy or abstinence... but doubt my ability to find the off-switch for my mad desire for women.

If I cannot evade my own material desires, how can I evade the whip-crack of karma? Surely I will be a dog or a pig in my next life. It's an ugly prospect.

You have choices in the here and now that could help redress the imbalance in what you see as karma.

If you choose not to heed those options it's possible, probably likely, you'll regret it (after you have passed over) when you look back at the way your present incarnation worked out, what you failed to achieve compared with what you did achieve.

The way you behave in the future - having had this pointed out by me as perhaps others have also done - may be the biggest source of regret after you die. If you want to avoid that and everything else you associate with karma etc. then you can consider which direction to try to go.
