cheapest wand is from something you found in a forest :L has more power too. you can wrap crystals onto it with metal cord.
https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=...AAAAAdAAAAABAV
find a tree you like, find some fallen wood from that tree and go wild...
anything you buy will be 30 bucks starting price, and you are buying something that's been infused with someone else's intentions and energy.

Yes, you can make your own wand from a branch. But before you do, I would suggest you research the different energies of the different trees. For example, the wood from an apple tree would be great for healing and love and the blackthorn wood is great for cursing - big difference there.

Cheap wands?
The above posters made some beautiful suggestions.
The first thing that came to my mind..... which others will probably disagree with, is Giant Castor Beans. I made a nice walking cane out of a branch from one. The branch is extremely thick but at the same time, very light.
The branch came from a bean stack that was over 17 feet tall and had a waist of 22 inches!
To me, Castor Beans are very mystical. The whole plant is poisonous but if you drink the oil from the bean, it is very curative. I can only imagine how mankind was able to find this out.
Right now, I have 2 Castor Beans that are approaching 8 feet tall and I have about a dozen other plants that are starting to grow. After reading this thread, I want to later, make wands from these bean plants!

We have a lot of trees and there's a willow near the house. Every time during a strong wind, it drops branches. Most of them are too thin for making wands but one day I found some thick branches on the ground. I took those and made a wand out of one branch. It isn't finished but it works really well.
I believe the wand connects with willow for extra energy when I use the wand. It's as if my energy gets combined with willow.
I have a lilac stick that I set aside to make another wand. This one might have a connection to nature spirits. I haven't had time to further explore that idea but is based on some interaction I had with lilacs and nature spirits connected with the lilac in front of the house.
I have a spruce stick I set aside for another wand. At this point, I need to read up on spruce trees to find out what spiritual properties they have.
All I did to the willow wand was peel off some bark and make a point. I sanded it for a smooth finish. I left the bark on the handle though I plan on hollowing out the handle and gluing small crystals on the handle. The crystals will be the most expensive part of that wand.
I doubt I'd get connected to trees and nature spirits if I bought a wand.

. I've read making your own is the best way to go. Does it really matter what type of wood you use as long as your energy and intent goes into whatever you're making? I've also read collecting your own materials makes the energy stronger.
I have wondered that about smudging. Where I live true sage doesn't exist in nature. But cedar is extremely common, can I use that instead of the "garden sage" bundles you get in most shops.

Make it yourself. You need to imbue it with your own energy anyway. I made a wand years ago from a piece of copper pipe and a nice quartz crystal point that fit in at the top. I put a copper cap on the bottom, glued it in place and wrapped it with a strip of leather for a belt that I bought at tandy leather. The guy there told me to saturate it with mink oil and sit it in the sun and it would become more pliable. It worked. I glued it around the pipe. I made another wand with a thinner piece of copper and put colored stones on it for each of the chakras.

Hi
I too made a wand out of a copper pipe just like you did except I used leather strips. I only made that one which was years ago. I hadn't thought to make one for the chakras.
I got the idea out of a book titled Crystal Power. Out of curiosity, is that where you got the idea to make a copper pipe wand?
