I just close my eyes and breathe and quiet my mind because that's what I've been told meditation is. I don't like guided meditations because I find them too distracting, and the only time I put on music is if I want to cover up any background noise or meditate for a certain period of time without setting an alarm, which I find too jarring.
I really don't know much about chakras except the names of them and what they generally represent. I know for a fact that they exist because when I was a child, my mother used to hold a pendant over them and it would start moving in circles. If it didn't move in circles, she would swipe away the "bad energy" and then try again until it did. Mind you, my mother was a devout Roman Catholic who never really talked about Eastern spirituality, but because of her, I knew what chakras were before I knew what they were called.
