Different ways to be Present

I've noticed that there are different ways to be Present. Observing thoughts will bring me present. Another way is just to give no emotion or thought on a thought. Kind of like ignoring thoughts. When I ignore them completely it brings me present in the moment. In other words they occur in the Now. Another way for me is to bring my attention in my body. It takes away energy from the mind, and will bring you present. I realized for me the second way is the way for me when I don't sleep. I woke up at 12:45A.M. and couldn't go back to sleep. The best way for me to cope with no sleep, is to "forgive and let give." In other words forgive and let the mind do it's thing in peace. I noticed I might have thoughts but I don't become a part of them. It's harder to stay present on barely any sleep. Sometimes we try to hard to stay Present which creates resistance. I thank the times I am not present, because I learn more from it and become stronger because of it. Does anyone relate to this?

Yes I relate to this. Retaining an element of detachment to my thoughts definitely helps me stay present. I see thoughts for what they are - just thoughts. Fcussing attention on my physcial body or surroundings also brings me back to the present, as does focussing on a single object, a particular sense such as hearing, or being out in nature.

I've also noticed that when you are feeling thoughts have no power when you are focused on feeling. Thoughts seem to not matter when you are feeling.

Practicing pranayama helps me be in the present. When my thoughts are loud, I make my breath louder.

Another way that is key for me to stay present is to focus on the positive feelings rather than the thoughts. When the thoughts occur, I go back to the feeling. Then the more I focus on the feeling, the stronger it becomes.
