I think it mostly stems from having been disconnected from Spirit and intuition etc. for thousands of years.
This happened after the fall of Atlantis, which was also extremely traumatic for many Souls, so much so that many still carry the fear of that in their cell memory.
After that, church stepped into the gap that had been created between mankind and the Divine. They told us we weren't worthy and only they could be the conduit to the Divine.
Fear of death was instilled in people: if you were bad you'd go to hell and experience eternal damnation!
Church was the one who decided what was "bad", usually what suited them.
But a great way to create a deep seated fear of death in people!
Without your own connection to Source and intuition you no longer had your own gauge.

Such things are so deeply embedded in our physical and energy bodies that even though you may know better now, you still may experience fear of death.
I think it's safe to say that fear of death and all the negative connotations that come with it, have become like a collective field?

Let's also not forget the enormous amount of people who have experienced utterly traumatic deaths in a previous life during the witch-hunt. Stoning, beheading, drowning, and what other pleasantries they came up with.
And if not experiencing that yourself, maybe being forced to watched it happen to a loved one.
Such happenings are also stored in our cell memory and we still carry that with us.

Death today is a bit of an alien subject. We don't really get to see it much.
Go back in history and someone's death sentence was public entertainment! Much like we go to theatre to watch a movie, people then went out in droves to watch another human being get beheaded, hanged, drowned, whatnot.
Fully enjoying the show, throwing rotten tomatoes, stones and so on.

Greetings, FairyCrystal!

When not involved in actual killing, people relax by vicariously watching others being killed in movies, television, and portable devices. According to one recent study, the average child in America will watch 8,000 murders on TV before finishing elementary school. By age eighteen, the average American has seen 200,000 acts of violence on TV, including 40,000 murders.
