past life and spiritual awareness

I read somewhere that during the living of our many lives we pass through 4 stages of awareness.

Somehow I have a feeling that one starts out in the very beginning with to much power on your hands and you start abusing that power. In the next phases you gradually live less important lives and they pain that was inflichted by you as a more powerfull beginner on other souls is now inflicted on you...

Could this be a correct assumption ?

in my belief what you are discribing is assiated with karma buti would say we pass through as much or as little needed as posible
