VESAK DAY IS COMING!

I used to buy birds on this day so as to release them. I would also give gifts to the elderly, the sick and the handicapped which would bring joy to many.

..............much reflections on this day.

This year Vesak day will be on April 30th in China, May 6 in Thailand, Myanmar and Vietnam.

This year, the year is 2020 but in Thailand, they are 543 years ahead of so the year is 2563. But in most other Buddhist countries, their calendar reads the year 2564. Our calendar is based on the 'year of the birth of Jesus' whereas the other calendars mentioned are based upon the date of Buddha's enlightenment. I prefer the calendar that is 543 years ahead of ours. Easy to remember 5 - 4 - 3.

I bought some finches once at a pet store and set them free. So sad for birds to be locked in cages.

I do not like birds in cages but I do not like them pooping on my SUV.

The more they poop...... I know what is going to happen and then it does.......

Then the hawk shows up.............

I really don't like that but what can I do?

Another Vesak day has come and gone.

In the East, this is a very important day.

I had never heard of Vesak day before until one of my friends wished me a Happy Vesak Day.

Buddha is one of my favorites and this was a good remembrance.

In the West, Vesak Day is not popular and in some cases, is unknown. I find it interesting how certain beliefs change over time within the same religion.

Vesak Day was unknown to me until you mentioned it.
