A Life In Light: Meditations on Impermanence by Mary Pipher. I'm really enjoying it and it's giving me some interesting perspectives and insights on my own life and the meaning, compassion and redemption to be found in ordinary, everyday life.

To Hell and Back is a book by Dr. Maurice Rawlings that explores near-death experiences (NDEs) that are terrifying and not always blissful. Rawlings was a cardiologist and resuscitation specialist who interviewed patients who had NDEs.

The Joy Diet: 10 Daily Practices for a Happier Life, by Martha Beck. I am almost done with this book, and have really liked it. It's pretty funny too. Many of the practices help with not just "happiness", as it's often thought of, like "pleasure", but with goals, dreams, meaning, well-being and balance. In other words, overall thriving.

The 10 practices are: Nothing (like, doing nothing), Truth, Desire, Creativity, Risk, Treats, Play, Laughter, Connection, and Feasting (like festivity or celebration). Each of these has a chapter devoted to it with practices and tools and some really unique ideas to help you understand and implement it in your life. It's one of those books that seemed to come to me at just the right time and synch up with my life, confirm different things I was realizing, or expand and help me implement things I wanted to do at the time.
