Wabi Sabi..

It's a Japanese philosophy focused on accepting the imperfect and transient nature of life, and seeing beauty in what most would see as ugly

It's a concept derived from Buddhism and the ' Three Marks of Existence '...

Anala,
I had just remembered Hozho and Hozhoni when sky123 mentioned beauty.
I'll bet there is similar philosophies between Wabi Sabi and Hozho.

Google tells me that the 'Three Marks of Existence' are:
Annica or impermanence.
Which is the foundation of Buddhism and most important of the three.

Dukkha or suffering.
Every experience is marked by some quality of suffering.

Annata or Non-Self.
As Thich Nhat Hanh puts it, impermanence is emptiness in terms of time; non-self is emptiness in terms of space.

Very nice.

There are many cultures that deliberately put imperfections in their artwork to show our human imperfection.
I was remembering the 'Spirit bead' or 'Spirit path' in Native American art.
Quote:
In Navajo culture, rug weavers would leave little imperfections along the borders in the shape of a line called ch'ihónít'i, which is translated into English as "spirit line" or "spirit pathway.

I found this sight that is titled (The Art of Deliberate Imperfection)
and sure enough it does mention Wabi Sabi. Nice .

There is a.so Nizhoni, the beauty way, beauty and balance.

I love all the words throughout the world that touch on the same thing.

There is also a Japanese word for mending what is broken (like a cup) mwith gold. In a way honoring the lesson.

Ah yes, Nizhoni.
I believe that was the word I wanted to use instead of Hozhoni.
Quote:
Hozhoni is a Navajo word meaning “completed circle of harmony.”
I like all the words Hozho,Hozhoni and Nizhoni and really like the concepts
and Spirit behind the words.

I do find acceptance is a key in life.
As the Serenity prayer goes:
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can,
and wisdom to know the difference.
