Thus, the degree of one's spiritual development or lack of it can be easily gauged by determining our compulsive reactivity in varying situations and circumstances, both external and internal.

Instances of compulsive reactivity would obviously mean the lack of presence within, and highlight to us the need for more inner work, and to be more present and aware.
