I'm finding now more and more that 'making conversation' is not a good reason to say something. I've found a lot more peace since relinquishing the idea that I have to report my experience to people or feel obliged to understand theirs.
I also try to remember "Curiosity killed the cat." (I mean idle curiosity, not the same as genuine enquiry into fascinating topics)

But here's another perspective: I once 'suggested' to my brother and his wife that they were ignorant of a lot of things because they haven't traveled.

For the last few years they've been all over the place and now they live overseas.

On one hand I feel terribly guilty because I didn't really mean it like that (I was trying to prove a point and support my argument, not necessarily criticize them) and now they have completely disrupted the course of their life.

But on the other hand maybe it's great. My brother was kind of conservative and I'm sure he's a lot more open minded now and has had some awesome experiences.

Maybe such pregnancy comments or the like could be the spark they need to adopt a healthier lifestyle? It only feels bad because one is clinging onto a sense of self, a self image of being a 'nice' or 'good' or 'reasonable' person but who knows? Maybe such comments can be divinely inspired. Just let it go, the universe will work itself out just fine.

I try to listen to myself as I listen to a third person. Pay attention to my thoughts and feelings. That way I don't do it so often and thus I don't feel guilty (which is of course not good for me)
