your story reminds me of a time i cycled down to the beach and tried to get stoned. i thought nothing was happening so i started cycling back home, on the pavement. then i saw him, a policeman right in front of me. suddenly i felt very stoned. i thought i better get off the bike and walk it past him i'm not supposed to be riding on the pavement. it took a whole hour of pushing (it felt) till i reached him and slowly walked by. i felt all the colour drain out of me becoming pasty white and he was staring at me. i felt the cop eyes, and the bag of weed in my pocket. obviously i handled it all wrong, i should have just acted normal and given him the big smile, maybe commenting on what a fine day it was but i was afraid i'd start jabbering at him and then he'd know

And how is there the attainment of gnosis after gradual training, gradual action, gradual practice? There is the case where, when conviction has arisen, one visits [a teacher]. There being an agreement through pondering the teachings, desire arises. When desire has arisen, one is willing. When one is willing, one contemplates. Having contemplated, one makes an exertion. Having made an exertion, one realizes with the body the ultimate truth and, having penetrated it with discernment, sees it."
