New member from the Philippines (originally from Texas)
Hi, I am new here. I have no idea what I am looking for... so this is as good a place as any to look ha ha.
I grew up christian, after graduating seminary I did the only intellectually honest thing... and quit the church. I looked at buddhism but at the time they seemed too atheistic to me,
so I ended up hindu. That lasted for 25 or so years.
I was a single dad for 16 years, then the kids grew up, and I retired to the Philippines in 2013.
At that point I was not sure if I was atheist or agnostic - and realized I was apathetic (yeah, very much a Gen-Xer). I have never seen anything to make me believe in a soul or an afterlife, and quite frankly those have nothing to do with my life right here and now. I do not need a promise or a threat to be a good person.
Buddhism now seems too dogmatic, and I am looking at taoism a little. I think I am just making my own path as needed. (I think I could follow Buddha, but not the power structure built in his absence.)
During the covid lockdown I began meditating more. I have a hindu and a buddhist mantra and alternate depending on my mood. I use meditation more to help with my seizures (disabled vet) than for spiritual purposes.
So I am kind of a mess, but a happy mess.

Exactly. And Jesus said wonderful things and Krishna did and Buddha did...take all of them in, I say.

Prepare yourself for the coming astral journey of death by daily riding in the balloon of God-perception.
Through delusion you are perceiving yourself as a bundle of flesh and bones, which at best is a nest of troubles.
Meditate unceasingly, that you may quickly behold yourself as the Infinite Essence, free from every form of misery. ~Paramahansa's Guru's Guru.

Happiness is the result of an enlightened mind whereas suffering is caused by a distorted mind.
