Pretty close......
The main reason Jesus came here was to fulfill prophecies. It was foretold he would come and that he would have to die so as to close one door (fulfill the Law) so that another door can be opened which will lead mankind forward in to the Kingdom of God, the restoration of the original promise.
This is why he had to die on the date he died.
