A Whack On The Side of the Head, a book
So this book fell off my bookshelf, no it did not hit me in the head, but the title is “A Whack On The Side of the Head,” By Roger Oech. It’s about unlocking your mind for innovation.
I haven’t read this book for sometime but thought I’d share some of it’s’ contents:
1. The Right Answer; Sometimes there are more than one right answer.
2. That’s Not Logical; the creative process does not always involve logic.
3. Follow the Rules; Sometimes we need to challenge the rules.
4. Be Practical; Each of us has an artist and a judge within us. It is advisable that we allow our artist to do its job before bringing in our judge.
5. Avoid Ambiguity; Too much specificity can stifle our imagination.
6. To Err is Wrong; Give yourself permission to make mistakes.
7. Play is Frivolous; It is not wise to take ourselves too seriously.
8. That’s Not My Area; Everything crosses over into everything else.
9. Don’t Be Foolish; There are some things that are so serious that you have to laugh at them.
10. I’m Not Creative; We are all creative.
A Whack On The Side of The head is about thinking outside of the box. Some examples are: “The little I know I owe to my ignorance.” “There is nothing so unthinkable as the absence of thought.” These are a sample of philosophical saying that offer a whack on the side of the head.

Brilliant Starman. I think I would agree with just about all of those points, especially number three lol.

Yes a good whack on the head hurt no-one.
Also , a book falling off a shelf is no accident .
It's a sign for whatever reason.
I resonate with numbers 3 and 9.

In any list I usually assume there is a reason for Number 1……it is so with this list for me…….

I got an earworm from this thread for this song, I was sure it contained the line 'A Whack On The Side of the Head',but no! perehaps he did a different version on the album I used to listen to.

Lyrics
I am hated for loving
I am hated for loving
Anonymous call, a poison pen
A brick in the small of the back again
I still don't belong
To anyone, I am mine
And I am hated for loving
I am haunted for wanting
Anonymous call, a poison pen
A brick in the ah
A brick in the small of the back again
I still don't belong
To anyone, I am mine
I am falling
With no one to catch me
I am falling
And there's still
No one to catch me
Ah
Anonymous call, a poison pen
A brick in the ah
A brick in the small of the back again
I just don't belong
To anywhere
I just don't belong
Mmm
Ah
