"So if we incarnate we are supposed to go to a very similar body. But this would be difficult. How can it be. And looks and personality is determined by genes. So will we have the same genes?"

Such are the muddled thoughts and ideas of someone who has not grasped even the basics of incarnation - the whys and wherefores of life 'in the body' - before expounding on reincarnation.

I suppose it is possible, but what is it that reincarnates?

How can past lives be real if we were a different person? Why is that different person's life relevant to us now if said person is gone? If it is relevant to us now, than something of that person is hidden somewhere, somehow. Dunno how that works, but it's interesting to hear how it could work.

To balance my previous comment, it is fair to say that an attractive child will probably receive more positive feedback from adults and may grow up with a more positive self-image and thus be more socially comfortable than the more homely child.

But this is just one aspect of the personality, and it does not always apply.

Peace

It's more accurate to say that an individuals looks may influence how (s)he is treated and in turn that might affect her/his character/personality. Someone's subsequent life/reincarnation will be influenced to some degree by what happened in previous incarnations, in turn perhaps influenced by their character and personality.

Indirectly, then, personal attributes may have had a greater or lesser influence on someone's current incarnation. And may have an influence on subsequent ones.

I am translating a book now that is over 3,300 years old. It talks of reincarnation in surprising detail. It also talks about karma. This book was written by a great grandson of one of the writers of Vedas. I have been able to verify the link between reincarnation and karma through my personal experience. As to the question, who incarnates, I can say whoever wants to incarnate will incarnate.

Being nonexistent is better, more peaceful.

I don't agree that looks determine personality. Genetics determine looks and can to some degree influence personality, but so is how one is brought up.

The ideas that shape my ideas taught much the same - it's a choice we make at some point in our spiritual progression.

I think the original question asking who reincarnates is intended to be about who the new individual is and whether there's any resemblance to the one who incarnated just before.

The question comes from someone who apparently does not understand the reasons for reincanation and how a spirit may animate various bodies at various times. It shows how confusing it is when points are considered in isolation, without an overall context.

A thing I have gleaned from mediums with astoundingly accurate reputations is: While on the Other Side in
the ''In-between place'' before we come back here is we clearly see or learn HOW amazingly fast we can learn and progress on Earth -
the 'school' after all...and so we can be overly anxious, lol, to come back here!

And as we stand before the Council with our spirit guide at our side...we can say things like:
''I want to be born blind in a poor family, with an alcoholic parent!!!''
And the Council will chuckle and say,
"Hold on, we think you have forgotten how hard it is there...how about this time - just poor with an alcoholic parent?"
'OK'.

We are on the Other Side so long some times we're so anxious to grow and learn and progress so we can get to the Higher Realms!!!!
We are absolutely zealous to come back!
Some of the highest souls we may feel sorry for are born with 'afflictions'...
cuz the Council knew they could 'handle it', knowing their maturity of conviction.

*Recommended mediums - Chico Xavier and Anthony Borgia, "Life in the Unseen World'', Rob Schwartz, a researcher working with 3 chosen Mediums.
All can be googled...their are more, but these talk about ''before coming back here''. Brian Weiss, MD touches upon this sometimes.

Prepare yourself for the coming astral journey of death by daily riding in the balloon of God-perception.
Through delusion you are perceiving yourself as a bundle of flesh and bones, which at best is a nest of troubles.

Agreed...and of course, live's hard knocks.
Marilyn Monroe was apparently miserable.

Teachers/guides who influence my own understanding taught that the richness and complexity of life in this dimension affords experiencers opportunities to move ahead spiritually they would not find elsewhere.

It has also been said that some look on longingly wishing they also were able to take part in such valuable opportunities for growth. This dimension seemingly provides special if not unique opportunities that spirits are keen to experience for themselves. I can see, though, how many might look at the state of this world and reject such ideas.

We can only guess at what happened to lead us here but even the most apparently negative experiences during incarnate life may have been chosen before incarnation. But even if they weren't their impact may help our spiritual progress in ways we can't even imagine. Crazy though that will sound.....
