You could also ask your guides/companions whatnot on the astral about them. Specifically if you have a trait or habit you are trying to get rid of and you want to know the root of the problem.
I discovered a lot of phobias I had from past lives for example. Heights and spiders just to name a couple. ^^
Technically you don't even have to ask them, just set that intention that you want to find out the root of an issue you are having problems with overcoming.
