You know what intrigues me the most, Molearner, is how the revelations and innermost secrets and knowings across every spiritual tradition is -- so similar. So consistent.

This is why I can believe in the word "God".

Thanks for the link.

Yeah. It may have some merit.
Lots of terminology that I am not familiar with.
The gist of it seemed palatable.

ImthatIm,

The merit for me personally is that I am drawn to heterodoxy as opposed to orthodoxy. Heterodoxy essentially is stepping outside of the box....looking at things in a new light....while not divorcing oneself completely from orthodoxy.
Why accept unquestionably the doctrines of others without contemplating the possibility of new and different understandings ?

You and I share some kinship, Molearner.

My style has always been to read, respect and appreciate orthodoxy whilst exploring that which is beyond the written word.

In coming back, one has a much deeper appreciation for that which is hinted at, written, for the written can never encapsulate that which is beyond.

People talk of God being omnipresent and great; if that were so, how could God be limited only by word, thought or conception. It is, by nature, impossible. How could God be limited, condescending and separative, as is sometimes posited, by inference.

I am grateful to all the Mystics and Esoteric practitioners of faith for they have brought us all innumerable joys and truths that ground our faith and confirm our love for that which is true, and some may call "God"

janielee,

A story: Many, many years ago we were riding a ski lift in Germany and my wife in her enthusiasm for taking pictures dropped her purse to the ground below. A German lady who was hiking below called back and said(in German)..."all that is good comes from above". Those words are imprinted in my mind.

Mystics, by definition, through the revelations they have experienced are recipients of the grace of God. The essential wisdom that they share is not the product of a great intellect. We can speculate why they have receiived these revelations. First, I am willing to believe that they are capable of understanding the magnitude of that which is revealed to them. Secondly and maybe more importantly is that they share a love for mankind that compels them to share what they have received.

We should be the same way. There was a time in my life when I would believe that I had a brilliant thought.....that was probably my ego talking to me....:) Now that I am older I am more likely to say...."thank you God". I am willing to say if it was a really good thought, etc. that it came from above. As you can ascertain this has humility written all over it. We are reminded that "to whom much is given, much is expected". That expectation in these matters is that it demands a way of sharing.

We all have these moments. When my spiritual self was wakened beyond my long time connection with religion I discovered that if I were browsing books in a library or bookstore that I was almost magically drawn to a book that really was the right time...the right place.....in where I was being led at that time in my growth. Many examples of this of course.....we meet the right person....we see the right thing, etc. And all of these little revelations are possible because....first there is a void in us....and secondly we have acquired some attitude of openness. We must present ourselves as fertile soil.....the seed will come(from above) and we must believe that eventually it will bear fruit.

Dear Molearner:

For some reason, your words .. connect, seem relevant. Thanks..

I feel that - I also understand that desire to share, but words are so unable to transmit the ineffable..

The other thing is, and which I have struggle/d with is, how do these revelations inform our personal lives, enrich them and our ability to live...and that's possibly where your last sentence is giving me that perspective before I even asked.

I just want to thank you.

JL

Allowing space for new and different understandings is
valuable for spiritual growth IMO.
