Troubling dream less than 4 hours after friend's death

In March a close friend of mine died. It was expected, but still horrendous, and I was very emotional and raw for a long time leading up to, and after her death.

She died one Friday night at midnight. I learnt about it at 1:15am. I was expecting it that night, so I wasn't immediately in shock. I remember receiving the news like any other fact (it hit me hard the next morning). I then went to bed at 3:20am.

I began dreaming, unusually for me it was in pure black and white. I always dream in colour. I dreamt I was in a car with a male friend, and the car was being crushed by something big and powerful. My mate was killed, then whatever was crushing it came down on my side, and I was killed. At that precise moment I began feeling as if I was actually being choked. I could feel hands around my neck. I woke up, and was physically choking and coughing. I instantly felt the hands loosen their grip, and an arm slither away. I stopped coughing right away, looked at the clock, and it was 3:40am.

Around 5 hours earlier I was talking on the phone with a friend, and we were talking about virtual reality headsets, and he told me about disaster VR, especially one where you're in a car and it fills with water. So perhaps this was going around in my mind, and my dream was a play on that theme, so I'm not particularly intrigued with the dream (even though it was intense and led to my death). But feeling actual hands around my throat? Waking up coughing and choking? Feeling actual hands loosen their grip and slide away? what on earth was all that about? I've never experienced this before.

I fail to believe it was stress induced from my friend's death. It felt 100% real. However, the time it happened was a sort of climax to an very very stressful week. So I don't know.

Losing a loved one is never an easy thing to navigate no matter how prepared we maybe in the case of one who is ill or old in age. It is easy for such an experience to come about, especially with the additional info regarding the virtual reality discussion. Vehicles typically represent the body. It's how you get about in the world. A male passenger could represent male energy or penetrating energy. The feeling of being crushed and killed is probably the result of how the bod felt to your reaction of the news. It felt crushing. In the dream, you and the male friend are killed because death indications change and transformation. It would be challenging to not change when going through or experiencing such an event. Your friends passing was crushing. It compacted your energy or certainly felt that way. That along with the virtual reality discussion and anything else going on in your life probably manifested the dream.

However, keep in mind that dreams are like conversations with our bodies or the subconscious. True life is all within. Often times, if someone is sleeping wrong or gasping for air because their head is in a strange position on their pillow, it's not unusual to have such dreams as well. For example, if you feel extremely hot, it is not uncommon to dream of a fire or being on a beach and feeling hot. Still, with all that being said, there is nothing wrong with blessing your bedroom and home and clearing it of all negative energy on the odd chance that there was something else going on.

Also, when you normally dream in color but then have a dream in black and white, it tends to indicate a past perspective. It could also indicate having no gray area in regard to a viewpoint or position or perspective on something. This sometimes comes about when there is a rigid viewpoint of one extreme or the other and no middle ground. Of course, there are other reasons to dream in black and white, but those are just a few of the common ones especially when one usually dreams in color.

I pay attention to my dreams, and write down most of those I remember, and their interpreation.

I noticed that in the first less than 30 minutes after I fall asleep I have quite similarly feeling dreams. Most of the times I go through them and don't recall anything, but when they cause stronger emotions, I wake up.

My understanding is that it is the moment when you change focus from the awake-state to the sleep-state, and as your physical-senses shut down, and your inner-senses' signals get relevant, you become aware of your telepathic connections with other consciousnesses, that during your awake-state you aren't aware of. Your conscious-mind, being focused in the awake-physical gets startled and usually reacts with some fear that creates a threatening, even frightening scenario. If you maintain awareness, your dream morphs into something else, whatever caused your fear is left behind, and a new scenario develops.

Usually, this first dream doesn't have a meaningful interpretation, and as I said, it tends to happen in similar settings, with similar emotions, usually negative to some degree. It also implies some kind of moving around in a confusing, undefinedly threatening area or place.

Processing works on every level of you, whether it be stress, grief, trauma it’s all feelings resolved or not. To feel the realness if being chocked in a dream, could represent something your here in this life to address more obvious than other stuff.

Did you die in a past life this way?
Who and what cut you off from life this way?
What’s it mean to this current moment of now in your life?

Are you feeling choked by too much of life at present?
Have you lost your voice to speak up for you?
Who’s chocking the life out of you?

And it’s an ever present real danger to your health!!

Bluto, I have read that spirits can enter our dreams. I believe it is possible that spirits can do this. It is one way that they can communicate with us for good or bad purposes. As you know, negative spirits love to mess with us, so I do wonder if a negative spirit took advantage of your stressful situation (the passing of your friend) that night and decided to attack you. I do not believe it was your deceased friend choking you, if that is what you were thinking. The negative spirit, however, may have wanted you to think it was your friend. Those loser spirits have nothing better to do than torment the living

I have had several "dreams" where I've been awakened by something touching me inappropriately, laying on me, or just calling my name. One or twice, I have awakened, still feeling under attack or awaking in the presence of some beings. So, I can somewhat relate to your experience.

The sensation of being touched or lain on while dreaming feels quite real and frightening. And there were times when the sensation of touch lingered for a few seconds upon my awakening. Odd events seem to occur at the end of a dream, but I think the 'events' simply interrupt the dream cycle at the point of occurrence and our safety net kicks in and we awaken.

Please, do consider blessing your home. Either yourself (my stepmorher recommends to me, Sage) or by a person of positive spirit. And, if you are not doing so, say a prayer of protection at bedtime or whenever you nap or feel ill at ease.

Good luck, Bluto.
Blessings, to you.

Thank you, True Angel, for your post. Regarding the quoted part, I quickly came to this conclusion myself, and was interested in other people's perspectives. My friend would never had done that to me, she thought too much of me. Yet it felt very VERY real. I even felt the loosening grip, and the hand slide off my neck, and away.

It hasn't happened since, and things like that have rarely happened to me at all (probably 5 times in my 4 decades of life), so not sure I need to do a blessing.

Possibly a combination of both the death of your friend and video game. What you think you manifest.
