Candle or youtube candle

Is there an advantage of meditating with a real candle instead of looking at a candle on youtube to meditate?

It is safer to have it on Youtube because it cant burn down. as it would if it were a real candle. so it cant cause fire.

Smile Meditate with candle

Is it easier to watch the candle with open eyes or is it best with closed eyes or is there no preference???

I try to meditate every day even for 10 mins and worked it from there. I sometimes listen to music but not always.

Thank you both for your replies. I have been wondering for a while about that. As it makes no difference I am going to meditate watching youtube candle. I am concerned with a lit candle as it can cause a fire Native spirit reminded me of that.

I don't think there's much of a fire threat, at least no more than any other use of candles. Use a good candle holder and there shouldn't be a problem.

On occasion I have done candle gazing and the reason I like a real candle is I can be in my space for meditation, I can darken the room and there's no fan noise from a PC.

Safety considerations aside, I think there is something special about a real candle where the "fake one" just doesn't cut it for me. For one thing it expresses a life of its own. It's an element - fire, and it dances in response to the energies in the space. So many traditions honour the elements and give special importance to fire. Even the spiritual experience is described as a fire. I find it enhances an environment.

The only thing is once you know how to meditate you should be able to do it anytime wherever you are, not needing external tools or paraphernalia. I don't need these things (candles, incense, music etc.) but sometimes it's nice to use.

Mm, there's just something nice about a physical, tangible candle that's lacking with a video. But a video's a fair substitute if you don't happen to have any candles to hand, I imagine.

Thank you for your replies, a real candle would provide more atmosphere making it more special. If you are careful there should not be any problems. I do not leave a burning candle without me watching it.

Light quality from actual flame not artificially lit screen. Real 3D object as opposed to a 2D representation on screen. No comparison. Real candle for sure!
