Taṇhaṅkara Buddha
▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀

Taṇhaṅkara Buddha, the first Buddha, is mentioned in the Buddhavaṃsa. The Buddhavaṃsa is claimed to be a biography about the Buddhas but I highly suspect it is an autobiography of our current Buddha and his interactions with all of the previous Buddhas which also include the first Buddha, Taṇhaṅkara Buddha.

The third sentence of the Buddhavaṃsa speaks of 'psychic potency' that Buddha possesses. The one possessing this 'psychic potency' is the Buddha we have now in this time period - Gautama Buddha. And then it speaks of Buddha creating in the sky his famous jewel-walk.

The one who would later be known as Gotama Buddha, became a disciple of Taṇhaṅkara Buddha. He asked for a wish to be granted, but the wish was not granted. The one who would later be known as Gotama Buddha asked the same wish to the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Buddha. The 2nd and 3rd Buddha did not grant him his wish but the 4th Buddha did. The wish was that in the future, the one who would later be known as Gotama Buddha would become a Buddha.

Taṇhaṅkara Buddha went on and lived a long life, about 100,000 years.

The Buddhavaṃsa is the main source for info on the Buddhas but it really is about Gautoma Buddha's interaction with each and every one of the Buddhas. If you look closely, some of those close to Gautoma Buddha, also had interactions with some of the other Buddhas. Some of the Buddhas also foretold of Gautoma Buddha to become a Buddha in his own right.
