Your Fave Wheatgrass Juicer??

Hello friends...

I'm terribly sick & had an ephipany regarding what I need to do to get back on track & it's juicing wheat grass!

My hubby and I used to get a 'shot' of it at Jamba Juice, but as you know the cost can add up -- especially with the amount we need to detox...

So, I wonder if any of you might have a recommendation for a juicer?? Any to stay away from ?? We'd like to invest in a juicer that is made to last, is simple and doesn't require lots of manual labor (because we plan to use it a LOT)..

Thank you so much in advance for any responses!

Blessings,

Cam/EarthMamma

hmm I have no info on that one, however at my coop they sell frozen wheatgrass and I've not tried it but I wonder if that's an avenue for you to go. For some reason since I've stopped wheatgrass I feel better, after drinking wheatgrass my stomach would feel really weird and I'd get nausues so I wonder if I have issues with it for some reason. Now I get juices at my coop with organic, I get a carrot everything which has ginger, apples, carrots, beets and celery and it's so good......I wonder if they have a juicer that juices as well as makes wheatgrass shots.

I dont have one of these atatchments but am considering it. with the champion juicer you just buy the attachments you need for the job.

Gald to help. I went through this exercise many years ago after we killed the first cheap juicer. I figured buying one quality thing is better than buying many cheap ones.

With that juicer you can freeze bananas and make banana ice cream with it.

The best thing is as your fruit gets a bit old in the week you put all yuor excess in the juicer. juicing is a great way to prevent colds, and just feeling gtreat in general :)

I juiced a small big of wheatgrass yesterday and it spat most of it out as pulp so my thoughts would be to blend it with a bit of water? That way you are getting all the nutrients and not wasting anything, but it's already 'pre-digested' so your body doesn't have to work too hard to get the nutrients.

For those considering including wheat grass into your diet, here's an anecdotal experience for you to consider.

A friend of mine was working at a job site and next door was one of those juice places. Three or four days in a row, he had a wheat juice beverage as he'd heard it was good for you. The first day he felt fantastic, the second day also, the third was good, but on the fourth day, within a half hour, he felt incredibly sick. Almost like food poisoning. Nothing different in his normal routine except the wheat grass. He spent the next few hours in bed and being very ill. And over the course of the next few days he started having symptoms of swollen eyes, constantly running nose, sinus congestion, etc. That was the beginning of horrible allergies that affect him every spring and summer. He'd never suffered from allergies before the wheat grass juice. His doctor surmises that the sudden intake of whatever is in wheat greens overwhelmed his immune system and set up a reaction that continues to affect him years later.

Seems to me that the adage of 'everything in moderation' might be particularly applicable with something like wheat grass. Be careful.

Hi, Spiritlite!

Yes, I've seen that frozen wheatgrass.. Great alternative if one doesn't have a juicer.. Thank you for mentioning that.. It's been a long time since I've seen it..

What both you and DebbieM are hitting on in terms of how one can end up feeling icky when taking wheatgrass juice, is the resulting cleansing the body goes thru..

It is such a POWERFUL cleanser that it is actually heavily detoxifying the body...

In cases where there may be many toxins that are stored in the body (in the fatty tissues and organs), they can end up being released due to the cleansing properties of WGJ and could potentially make you feel poorly or even cause you to get sick.. There is something called the Herxheimer Effect/Reaction that is all about how sudden release of toxins and how it can affect you..

So, True DebbieM, it is wise to be very careful and go about this very slowly.. Thank you for sharing your friend's story .. I'm sorry to hear it wasn't a good experience for him tho'....

It may be that he released some very toxic substances that were stored in the body and are still circulating around... He may benefit from chelation therapy or even just adding fiber, more water & probiotics to his daily regimen..

Usually very small amounts of WGJ should be consumed at 1st, working your way up to whatever amount you feel comfortable with...

Going suddenly on an all raw food diet can produce the same affect.. And that is due to the cleansing & healing properties of food!

The flu like symptoms and icky feelings associated with detoxifying can be helped tremendously by adequate amounts of water, fiber & probiotics (good bacteria) and usually rest as well...

Thanks for your replies so very much!

Hi, Star-child (LOVE your pic from the 'What do we all look like' thread --- you are adorable! )..

Thank you for sharing.. Yeah, it takes a LOT of grass to get even a shot of juice... I saw a guy run the grass TWICE thru the juicer (as you say, to get the most of it)..

You make a good suggestion about mixing it with some water.. Altho' it is sweet and I bet in time one develops a taste for it, it is a bit much to take straight initially, lol!

What juicer do you have if I may ask? Do you like it?

Thanks for stopping by on my thread & for your comments!

♥ Cam/EM

P.S. Love your Greenman too.. !
