amethyst losing it's color?

i'm sure this is talked about somewhere in this category but i have an rough amethyst i bought... which was a clear and then blending into a deep purple. now it seems that it is only purple at the very, very tip. it had only been out in the sunlight once for a few hrs to charge... but i have a picture when i first got it, to now and i am not imagining it, it has definitely changed greatly? :O

You mentioned sunlight, I have read that you should keep them out of the sun, due to fading. This may have happened. You can charge and cleanse your stones during a full moon. Hope this is some help.

excessive water and sunlight can change the dynamics (even deteriorate) that type of stone.

Amethyst fades in direct sunlight, as well as some other crystals so make sure to do some research before putting them in direct sunlight. On top of my head I know Beryls, Quartz and Spodumenes all fade in sun light.

Yes, sunlight faces amethyst and as far as I know of, it cannot be reversed (I've heard of using radiation before, but I'm not quite sure how it works). To add to Selbor's list, fluorite, citrine (esp. baked amethyst citrine), ametrine, aventurine, smoky quartz, rose quartz, and most other coloured quartzs often lose their colours in direct sunlight.

It doesn't fade within a few hours!

What I think is happening, is a similar thing to my amethyst cluster: it's evolving! Crystals aren't stagnant 'things', they can grow and evolve as well. I've had a similar thing, my cluster getting a tad lighter (and it hadn't been in the sun at all!), also some of the larger points almost like rock crystal. First I panicked as well, but my cluster actually got activated and opened to higher dimensional levels and got Lemurian connections now as well.

It might also resonate with your crownchakra now as opposed to the third eye. Dark amethyst works mostly on the third eye, the lighter version on the crown.
So don't panic, just sit with it and feel! These things happen and I now love my amethyst cluster even more, even though I had a similar scare at first, lol

Sunlight is the main cause of color shifts to amethyst. Extreme heat or moisture can do it too.

Not sure that evolving is the best word but, yes, they can change and attune to different frequencies or reflect the owner's evolution.

Quartz points with cracks or defects inside them can show us pictures or heal themselves. Those pictures tend to change over time and colors can change too. I thought I lost my large smoky Quartz point with the defects in it, but now I realize it is just not smoky anymore and the little man running at the bottom of the sea has grown wings (plus he seems to be moving much faster now with that much larger wake behind him)

It is also true that some stones can lose their color fairly fast under the sun, which is likely a sign of accelerated change.
