😃 KINNIKINNICK 😃
It is about that time to make some Kinnikinnick.
I change my recipe about as often as I change my shirt.
First I get my tobacco.
Normally I use Red, Yellow and Hopi Tobacco.
I mix them up and then add my herbs.
Herbs I plan to use are:
Bearberry Leaf
Deer Tongue
Mullien
Osha Root
Red Raspberry Leaf
Red Willow Bark
Red Sumac
Spearmint
Yerba Santa
White Sage
Do you want to share any of your recipes?

Inner or cambium layer of Red Willow Bark sounds interesting.
My mixture is about 2/5 tobacco to 3/5 herbs.

Inner red willow is the main ingredient for smoking with the Chanunpa which
was brought from the White buffalo calf maiden to the Lakota/Dakota/Nakota people.
You can mix other herbs in with it and people often do.
I keep it simple and enjoy just the inner red willow bark.

Ooooh, thanks for sharing! I think I will go harvest some red willow and some raspberry leaf tomorrow. I might have to go looking for bear berry though, but I know where to look.
Just a question to clarify - when harvesting the red willow, you peel off the outer red layer, then shave the inner bark, right? I might have seen this on this thread but I just wanted to clarify.
Miigwech!

Yes peel the outer bark off of the red willow.
Then you can hold the stick and scrape off the inner bark.
Just don't go to deep and get to much of the wood layer.
You will quickly figure it out.
But if you need or want I have a link to someone peeling red willow bark.
It is kinda long 24mins. or so. But I'm sure you can skim to the parts you need to.

Happy gathering.

Some people I have heard do herbs with tobacco for flavor
and I also heard people say a herb mullein mixed with tobacco
could loosen phlegm in the lungs.
I think this is only for those that already smoke tobaccos.
Otherwise use it in a tea.

If you ever smoke Hopi Tobacco, which some claim is similar to old, native tobacco, you probably would want to cut the tobacco because of its strength. Some people, who smoke Hopi Tobacco for the first time, get really sick.
