Hinduism and the mind.
I think that Hinduism and Buddhism see the mind as a sort of screen between us and our real self.
Our real self is pure consciousness, and the mind filters this consciousness to create the illusion of the world.
In a sense the mind inhibits our consciousness.
This is different to the west, which believes that the mind GIVES us consciousness. The west believes that we would not be conscious without the mind.
Again, I am in a dilemma! lol. Both are feasible.

Just take your pick and use whatever works for you.

I like you're thinking - the Mind is a screen and/or a tool in which to interpret this world ?
So, go behind the screen or Mind and shazam!
Yes, the goal of (my) meditation - not to quiet the Mind, to go beyond the Mind;
becoming Pure Awareness or Consciousness our true selves, ahhhh.
Satchitanand, nirvana, samadhi, bliss...

Prepare yourself for the coming astral journey of death by daily riding in the balloon of God-perception.
Through delusion you are perceiving yourself as a bundle of flesh and bones, which at best is a nest of troubles.
Meditate unceasingly, that you may quickly behold yourself as the Infinite Essence, free from every form of misery. ~Paramahansa's Guru's Guru.

In Tibetan Buddhism the true nature of the mind is indescribable, it could be said to be like a pure crsytal. The thoughta and emotions are like reflections which appear in it.. Another example given is like holding a blue cloth in front of a mirror.. is the mirror blue? likewise with red etc... therefore thoughts and emotions only appear in the mind but true mind is pure and colourless. Likewise in Advaita which is the highest conception of hindu thought to my understanding ....mind is but a bundle of thoughts( to quote sathya sai baba), like a handkerchief. each thought is a thread... remove the thoughts/thread no more hankie.!!!!Awareness is that which sees... thoughts are that which are seen....subject/object.
