We can try to understand Tynsdale Translation "And leade vs not into teptacion: but delyver vs fro evell. For thyne is ye kyngedome and ye power and ye glorye for ever. Amen."

But we can look at other translations such as The New Revised Standard which reads: "And do not bring us to the time of trial, but rescue us from the evil one."

There are other translations but I showed these two for contrast.

Pope Francis has altered the Our Father for Roman Catholics, He obviously didn't approve of the original. He changed the phrase ' lead us not into temptation ' to ' do not let us fall into temptation '.....

Those translations are basically synonymous with temptation just using different words to define temptations……all definitions have to use a different word to define anything. I will say that ‘time of trial’ expresses closely what I wrote. The trial faces us…as it does all men. It is not a deliberate creation of God to misguide us. We put a raincoat on to respond to the rain….:)

If we believe that we are made in the image of God do we have any good reason to believe that we are helpless ? Remember the 23rd Psalm……..:)

A not so subtle difference..
The alteration makes no sense. It doesn't add anything worthwhile to it.

On the contrary, There is a lot of difference, in my opinion. It's the Devil who leads us into temptation.

I admit that letting us fall into temptation does come across as just as bad. But that would be free will in action and consistent with the story of Adam and Eve.

There's the K.I.S.S. (keep it simple, stupid!) principle. Adding ''fall'' is unnecessary.. ''do not lead us into temptation'' is sufficient.
